HAND MADE REPEAT PATTERN
WHAT YOU NEED -
Masking tape
cutting matt
pencil
ruler
paper
stanley knife / scalpel / scissors
sticky notes
How to make it -
Cut 20x20 square or a 53x53 (wallpaper tile) with ruler, knife, scissors, scalpel and cutting matt underneath. Keep paper in place (important)
Then draw design within the tile square with any type of media you wish to use. keep away from edges as this will not work well when making it into a repeat pattern
Get sticky notes to number each corner of the tile 1,2,3,4
Draw a faint horizontal and diagonal line down and across the middle of the tile. make sure lines are straight
Cut down both of the lines with Stanley knife.
Move the numbered cut outs around - move 1 and 2 under 3 and 4. Then move 2 and 4 in front of 3 and 1
Tape together the newly organised cuts out to make create your solid square tile again.
Then with any gaps in the tile make sure to fill in with designs, this helps to make the repeat pattern look more seamless.
Use scanner app or a scanner and take a picture of your tile and you should be left with a clear scan in black and white.
Then take the scanned image of tile into photoshop and start to add colour, more designs etc.
Then once you are happy with the look of the tile make it into a repeat
You should have an end result of a repeat pattern all made by hand but with the help of photoshop :)
