CHANGE OF PLAN
Originally I was going to mix photography which was inspired by an Instagram artist called ... and the photography room in the Manchester art gallery. Although I thought this was a good idea I was truthfully struggling with it. I didn't feel that it was best for me personally and was left feeling uninspired.
At a point I was really struggling to find what I thought would bring out the best in my print work. I decided that I wanted to focus more on the digital side of print as I felt that my digital work has created some of my best work this year. I then went down to my holiday home in Devon and decided to have a look in some of the small galleries in Salcombe, this lead to me coming across an artist called Emily Powell in a gallery Called, Gallery 5. She is a painter that uses many different materials to create and abstract looking painting with the main attraction of her use of wonderful bright colours. Powell uses her inspiration by going out and drawing her surroundings for example, flowers, houses, Animals and so on. Her work instantly caught my attention with the bright bold colours and the abstract effects within her work. instantly I could see I felt that I wanted to create a print that had the kind of abstract bold effect within a digital design.
Therefore I started to just go out with my sketchbook and draw as freely as possible to create some abstract designs. I mainly focused on drawing flowers, boats and, houses. I felt like this was a good way of finding inspiration and we have been encouraged to draw like this in our last unit in the Friday drawing sessions. The main attraction for me within Emily Powells work is her use of colours so I made sure I used similar colours to her within my sketches. Using my sketch book I then scanned in my designs and motifs and started to create as many designs as I could on photoshop, mostly focusing on repeat patterns.
